#BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop ~~ Winter Shape Up

Kely the Cornish Rex in silhouette

Cats sleep an average of 15 hours a day, and Kely is no exception!

And the long, cold, dark winter days don't find many chances for finding sun puddles to stretch out  do yoga in. So shaping up in Winter can be difficult (just ask me!)

Fortunately for Kely, packing on the ounces has never been a problem. In fact, because of her IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) and the possibility of her having Intestinal Lymphoma, keeping the weight on her has been my goal since her diagnosis last August.

So gets to eat almost whatever she wants and has quite a buffet of foods offered to her, but along with everyone else of the feline persuasion in my house, no one is eating dry kibble any longer and I think everyone is healthier eating a species-appropriate diet here!

Along with the other kitties, Kely eats Weruva (mostly the chicken varieties), Stella & Chewy's ,(Freeze Dried Raw) Primal Nuggets (also a freeze dried raw) and most recently, Darwin's Raw Food.

She also gets some Fancy Feast Classic canned (no wheat gluten or plant material) and some FreshPet Meals (some veggies--but they don't make a feline formula without them or I'd feed it!), but I would like to wean her off both of those if she likes and does well on the Darwin's.

But mostly, I just want her to continue to keep her weight steady (or put on some more ounces). Since seeing the Internal Medicine specialist last August and starting on metronidazole and prednislone, she has not had any vomiting at all and has put on about 5 ounces.

We've reduced her meds to every other day and she is doing great on that schedule, so that's probably where I will keep her until she goes in for a follow up next month. So instead of exercising and cutting the calories, Kely's 'Winter Shape Up' has been pretty, well, relaxing, hahameow!

Monday Mewsings ... Kely misses Sammy, too ...

Kely and Sammy, two senior Cornish Rex, snuggling in bed

Kely lost her companion ManCat, Sammy on December 21st and we are all coming to terms with his passing, but I feel that Kely misses him most of all.

They were both senior citizens, Kely being just a few months older than Sammy, and while they didn't start out as friends, after a while I think they both depended on each other for affection and snuggling, even if a few whaps came between them from time-to-time ...

Kely gets to go to work with me almost every day, and I know that is good for her ... she has quite a fan club and get lots of attention and also gets to nap in her heated bed and have tasty snacks hand fed to her ...

Kely and Nolo, two Cornish Rex, sharing a meal

And back at home, I'm trying to gradually introduce her to Nolo, the foster kitty, as I think they both would benefit from becoming friends. But Kely isn't too smitten and this meal they are sharing ended with some cross words being said between the two of them.

But she was the same way with Sammy in the beginning, so I am hopeful a friendship will bloom here ... Stay tuned for updates!

Merry Christmas from Kely!

I took this photo of Kely, wearing one of Coco's holiday dresses and she just posed with the most serene look on her face...perfect looks for a dress named Peace on Earth...

Kely's not wild about wearing hats, though...so the pretty Christmas Candy hat is placed next to her...It looks like a present, don't you think?

In her Starry Night dress, she let me put on the tiara, but wouldn't look at the camera, but I thought this photo looked very regal anyway...

Here she is wearing Coco's pearl necklace, a lovely piece created by The Domestic Dogdess, looking very elegant and festive!

We wish for all our friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, too!

Giving Thanks...to all our friends, to scrumptious food, to fresh kitty greens, for laps to snuggle in, for love!

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

Simply Sunday Morning...

I always tell people that a Cornish Rex will sit on a heat pad (a pet safe one, of course--I use this kind in my house: ) even when it's 95 degrees outside. Now that it's late Autumn, one must add oodles of blankies to burrow in, too!

This weekend, Kely and her roomie, Sammy, are being introduced to a Cornish Rex I am fostering. I am taking it slow and easy, but so far so good...no fisticuffs! My other 3 cats aren't being so congenial, and Nolo has ended up with a few scrapes from their swats!

The above photo is of Nolo at the shelter...he didn't know what was happening to him. His owner died, and after a month the relatives that took him in found they were allergic, so they surrendered him to the Fairfax County Shelter. Fortunately for Nolo, the shelter contacted Sphynx Open Arms Rescue and through them, I was contacted...and he was saved!

Nolo will stay with me until he finds his forever home, and I want everyone in the house to be happy, so am trying to acclimate everyone with the least stress on them and me! Nolo is a love bug, and while he does have a heart problem that requires medication, he has just had a complete physical, lab work, cardiology visit and dental cleaning and is up-to-date on vaccines and is microchipped.

If you would like to learn more about Nolo and find out how to adopt him, contact Sphynx Open Arms Rescue and you can read about him HERE and on our Curlz and Swirlz blog from time to time.

Kely may be a grumpy Grannie Cat at times, and Sammy isn't comfortable in new situations, but Sharing is Caring and I am sure they would want you all to know about Nolo!

Monday Mewsings

Kely doesn't plan on being out in the rain anytime soon...but she does have a raincoat, hahameow!

Although with the hood up, she kind of reminds me of those ladies in the '60's with the bouffant hair dryer caps on!
